PlayBox traces its roots back to the 1980s, when it was first imagined by Glenn Griffin, grandfather of PlayBox CFO Chandra Cambell. Glenn noticed something every parent has seen: after birthdays and Christmas mornings, children were often more fascinated by the boxes than the toys inside them. Kids would climb into them, decorate them, and turn them into castles, forts, and spaceships through pure imagination.

That sparked a simple idea: what if the box itself became the toy? A beautiful, sturdy playhouse that encouraged creativity, could be personalized by kids themselves, and cost far less than bulky plastic, metal, or wooden alternatives. From that idea, PlayBox was born.

In 2023, the story came full circle. After Chandra and Tyler Cambell celebrated their son’s first birthday, a package arrived in the mail from Great Grandpa Glenn himself: an original PlayBox. Tyler instantly fell in love with the concept, and Glenn enthusiastically gave his blessing to bring PlayBox to a new generation of families.

Over the next few years, Tyler worked to modernize the designs, refine the product, and find the right manufacturing partner to bring Glenn’s vision back to life. Today, PlayBox has officially launched anew — built on the same spirit of imagination, creativity, and simple childhood joy that inspired it decades ago.
